How to take care of your Yoga mat
A mat is to a yogi as a canvas is to a painter. The only difference is that in our case we don’t change it every time we practise. That’s why we need to know how to take care of our Yoga mat to keep it in good shape for longer.
1. CLEANING
It’s a good idea to clean the sweat off your mat after every practice. We recommend that you use cleaning products with natural ingredients.
Be careful if your mat is made of polyurethane. For example,
(Esmerindia, Pinkindia, Universe Karmandala etc.)
These mats should be cleaned with natural ingredients that are not oil-based.
2. DRYING
After a Yoga session or after you clean your mat, let it dry on the floor before you roll it up. This way, you’ll prevent unwanted bacteria from developing.
Here at naturyoga, we have antibacterial yoga mats: Sand Karmandala y and Line Karmandala.. They’re made of cork, which means that they are antibacterial and slip-resistant. Not only this, they also provide insulation against hot and cold temperatures.
3. STORE YOUR MAT PROPERLY
How you roll up your mat to store or transport it is very important. The bottom of most naturyoga mats are made of natural rubber for greater stability during your practice.
Natural rubber, however, is very sensitive, which means that you should roll up your mat with the rubber part on the inside.
4. SUNLIGHT
Although we yogis love to connect with nature and practise Yoga outside, it’s important to be careful when exposing your mat to sunlight.
Sunlight can damage the material and, consequently, reduce the mat’s grip and cause its colour to fade.
5. WASHING MACHINE?
Yoga mats cannot be washed in the washing machine.
Most of the materials will not withstand a washing machine cycle. What’s more, the material may peel off and disintegrate.
By giving it a quick clean after each practice, your mat will last and support you in your asanas for a very long time.
Sending you all our positive energy, from one group of yogis to another,
Namasté
